Here we are on Day 6 of 365 Days of Children’s Books!
Day 6 brings the first of many wonderful chapter books I’ll suggest over the course of this year.
We almost always have a read aloud of some variety going on here at the Hill House, so I have many to recommend to all of you!

Mr. Popper’s Penguins
Book: Mr. Popper’s Penguins
Author: Richard and Florence Atwater
If you’re looking for an easy read for youngest all the way to your oldest, Mr. Popper’s Penguins will be a hit!
In fact, if you’re new to read alouds, Mr. Popper’s Penguins would be a great first chapter book, even for your youngest kiddos. It’s has a few pictures scattered throughout, and the book is just down right funny in parts. It’s sure to keep your children engaged!
House painter, Mr. Popper, isn’t exactly thrilled with his job and wants a new adventure in life. His long-time hero, Admiral Drake, sends him a gift: a penguin!
Mr. and Mrs. Popper end up with 12 penguins by the end of the book! How fun to follow along with all of their issues and antics.
My children and I read this during the summer, but will definitely read it again when we study penguins this winter!
