The Josefina Story Quilt
Book: The Josefina Story Quilt
Author: Eleanor Coerr
Illustrated by: Bruce Degen
The Josefina Story Quilt is the first real chapter book that my oldest daughter read. She took a little longer to learn to read (sometimes you just have to give them time!), so it was a huge accomplishment when she finished reading this book silently on her own.
In fact, this was one of the first books that I “caught” her reading without being prompted.
::be still my heart::
If you have a child that enjoys the Little House on the Prairie time period, he or she will love The Josefina Story Quilt. Faith and her family are traveling out west in a wagon train, but Pa won’t allow Josefina’s chicken to come along because there’s little room.
The chicken does end up traveling with the family and ends up saving the day!
Ma helps Faith put together all of her special memories of their westward adventure into a quilt, including her memories of her pet hen, Josefina.
This is such a sweet little story!
Spoiler alert: Josefina, the hen, dies on the trip. If you have young or sensitive children, you might need to prepare them for this ahead of time!
