I admittedly don’t let my children watch a lot of television.  Needless to say that when the TV goes on, they are glued to it.  They see it as a real privilege.

So imagine their sheer delight when I told them I scheduled a DVD as part of school this week!

Your Backyard: The Life and Journey of the Amazing Monarch Butterfly

My children and I had the privilege to review Your Backyard: The Life and Journey of the Amazing Monarch Butterfly this past week.  In a nutshell:  I could not have been more impressed.

The content of the video was top-notch.  From describing the 30 day life-cycle of the monarch to explaining why they migrate, the educational piece of this was spot on.  While the topics could easily be too complex for my littles to understand, the easy approach and style made it so my two-year-old can tell you all 4 stages of the monarch’s life cycle.

While it’s wonderful that Crowe’s Nest Media made the video so educational, they made the effort to make it interesting.  My children loved the animation portions as well as the bloopers!  My children could relate to Taylor, Samuel and Grace and enjoyed going on their butterfly adventures.

Watching a transformation from egg to butterfly could be dry and boring, but this video is exciting and left us wanting more!

In fact when the DVD was finished, my 6 year old son said, “Where did this video come from and how can we get another one?!”  It thrills my heart when I see my children so excited about learning something new.
