My children – especially my girls – love anything related to crafts. While it’s difficult to plan a craft every day or (every week!) I always have a ready supply of crafty goodness on hand for them to do their own thing. My 6 year old daughter is my craftiest soul. She comes up with the best ideas! Everything from homemade cards to decorated boxes to pasting lace on her math paper. 🙂
Why Craft Supplies Are Important in Our Homeschool
While I plan our math, spelling, phonics, and history each day, I leave ample (and I mean ample) time for my kiddos to use their imaginations. For my girls, using their imaginations usually involves playing with their doll house, their doll babies, or pulling out the craft supplies. While I’m usually not a big fan of mess, I make exceptions with play dough and craft supplies. It does no good to have all of the crafty goodness sitting in a bin – it’s meant to be used! So I put my oldest daughter “in charge” of the supplies, sit them at the kitchen table, and let them craft away. On the homeschool mornings that my little girls are restless, I often pull out the big craft bin and let them do their thing. They come up with the best creations! We take pictures and then put their masterpieces on the wall. They feel so proud!
Finding Cheap Craft Supplies
Each semester, I make sure I allot enough money in our homeschool budget to buy an ample amount of craft supplies. Michael’s usually has a good coupon in the Sunday paper and I shop their $1 bin or clearance bin fairly often. Target’s $1 Spot and the clearance bin at Wal-Mart are good places to find cheaper items for craft baskets also.

I get most of my craft supplies from Hobby Lobby (watch the sales, use 40% coupon). Occasionally I’ll get blessed by a homeschooling mom who hand us her left overs 🙂
However, if I win this, I want to give it to a local homeless shelter. I saw the idea of donating crafting supplies to a shelter for the kids! I’m gathering things to do it anyway, so when I saw this give-away and knew I had to at least try to enter! My kids so love art, that we want to share it with other kids 🙂

I shop Joann’s with coupons and clearance. My favorite place, though, is preschoolcorner.com. Their craft boxes come with 12 different crafts for $10 and include everything in the package. Glue, paper, supplies, everything. They have a different theme for each month and I like not having to come up with the crafts because my kids love to do them, but I’m not so creative. I also have on hand various craft supplies for their own creativity, but these boxes are great to just have something all ready to go.
