Bee Number Tracing Strips – A Fun Way to Practice Numbers
Most children need a variety of methods and activities to practice the physical act of writing numbers. While some of my children have not needed quite as much assistance, I have three that needed very intentional practice.
I needed to sit with them and make sure they were writing the numbers correctly, starting at the same place every time (never at the bottom!), and holding their pencil and paper correctly. The physical act of writing, I have found, is something that has to be taught consistently, even to those children who are more “natural writers.”

✏️ I had to teach myself how to teach my children many things, and handwriting is definitely one of those topics! If you want to read more about that, I suggest this post:
How I Use Handwriting Without Tears in Our Homeschool
NOTE: You do not have to use Handwriting Without Tears to be successful with handwriting. Those, however, are the materials that taught me how to teach my children. I outline in the video my method, so watch that part and see what you can glean from it for your own homeschool!
These Bee Number Tracing Strips will help your child practice number writing, regardless of whether he is in the beginning stages of learning to write numbers, or if the process is more rote for him.

What is included in this printable packet:
In this packet, you will find bee-themed number strips from 0 to 50. If your young ones are only working on numbers 0 to 10, simply print the number strips that you need.
Note that there are several blank strips on the last page for your child to practice as needed.
I included a wide range of numbers since most children learn at least through 20 – and often through the number 50 – in Kindergarten.

How to Use These Bee Number Strips
I recommend printing the Bee Number Strips on cardstock, and then depending on your use, laminating them for durability.
There are a multitude of ways to use these number strips in your homeschool or classroom. Here are a few ideas to get you started, which are also included in the printable packet for easy reference.
🐝 Print on copy paper for one time use with a pencil, as you would a regular tracing activity.
🐝 Print and place in a page protector and provide dry erase markers for repeated use. This is a perfect activity to place in your child’s Daily Calendar Notebook and change out each week for variety.
🐝 Laminate each page and cut apart the strips. Place them on a ring to keep them together, which also makes them portable. Place a selection of these in your child’s daily workbox, or place them in your classroom learning centers. Trace with dry erase markers.
🐝 If you choose to laminate and cut into strips, choose one strip. Match it with a Printable Number Card. Build the number with any math manipulative you have on hand, but Math-U-See style place value blocks work best for this activity, in my opinion.
🐝 Choose a number strip and practice writing the number. Then brainstorm items that come in that amount or are grouped in that amount.
For example, choose the number 8. What comes in groups of 8? Choices might include a pack of hot dogs, a pack of crayons, a pack of pencils, the legs of a spider, 8 pints in a gallon.
