Heart color by number worksheets are one of my favorite “quiet learning” activities for Valentine’s Day—kids get number practice and the fun of coloring. This simple 12-page printable is designed as a booklet (just stack, staple, and go!), with numbers 1–9 so even your youngest learners can work independently. Use it with preschoolers for number recognition, with kindergarteners as a quick math warm-up, or as an easy fine-motor center when you need something low-prep during the busy Valentine season. Below I’ll show you exactly how to assemble the booklet, plus a few easy ways to use these pages at home or in the classroom.
Many years ago – 6 to be exact! – I had the bright idea to create color by number worksheets. My girls especially loved coloring, and color by number (or color by CVC word or by addition) was an easy way for extra practice in those areas.
My first packet of color by number worksheets was a heart themed mini booklet. My girls loved it! Not only was it coloring, but the pages were in a booklet style which they adored.
This packet was originally published in January of 2014, so it was a bit dated and needed fresh fonts and an updated layout.
I hope your young ones enjoy this new version during this Valentine’s Day season!

This heart color by number printable is a simple, low-prep activity you can use all through the Valentine’s Day season. The download includes:
- 12 total pages designed to be assembled into a mini booklet
- 1 cover page
- Color by number pages featuring hearts (cute Valentine-themed pictures kids love)

Easy Ways to Use These Valentine Color by Number
There are a multitude of ways to use these little booklets, but here are some of my favorite ideas, whether you’re using at home or in a classroom.
- Use while waiting.
Have these printed with a pack of crayons in the diaper bag just ready to pull out for a time of unexpected waiting. Examples: Doctor’s waiting room, restaurants, getting the car serviced, etc. - Valentine party activity.
Are you hosting a Valentine party for younger learners? Have enough printed mini booklets for your attendees, a few new packs of crayons or Twistables, and you’re set! - Make this into a Busy Bag for Preschool or Kindergarten.
I survived off of Busy Bags for years when I had 4 children 6 and under. I bet I have made literally hundreds of them over the years!
This printable with a pack of crayons and a sheet of heart stickers is perfect. You could even add in a set of heart stamps if you have them (we did and loved them!).
⭐ I have a Pinterest Board full of Busy Bag Ideas if you want to take a look! - Before your regular math lesson.
Whether you are at home or in a classroom, you can use these as a fun introduction to the day’s math lesson.
