Are you studying the life of Saint Patrick this March? This Saint Patrick worksheet pack is a simple, print-and-go way for your children to learn about the real missionary behind the holiday—his story, his faith, and why the shamrock is so often connected with teaching about the Trinity. Keep reading to see what’s included, a few easy ways to use the pages, and our favorite books about Saint Patrick if you’d like to stretch this into a history lesson.
Before you ask: No, our family is not Catholic, however, we are Christian. I have always been a fan of Tomie DePaola, and this book was first introduced to me when we used to use Tapestry of Grace. Tapestry of Grace has a rich reading list, and this was one of the many gems from that time.

Saint Patrick Worksheets and Writing Activity
This Saint Patrick packet was the first topical worksheet packet I created way back in 2013. It is now on its third revision! I eliminated a few pages from the original packet since they didn’t reflect the person of Saint Patrick, and were focused a bit on the holiday.
I gave a few of the worksheets an overhaul, and added a new writing activity. I hope your young ones enjoy learning about this wonderful missionary that spread the hope offered in Jesus Christ.
And YES, it’s still free after all of these years and re-writes! ❤

Who Was Saint Patrick? (A Short, Kid-Friendly Summary)
If you need a quick primer on Saint Patrick, you can read about him here:
Saint Patrick was a Christian missionary to the people of Ireland, leaving a rich legacy. As a young man, he was taken from his home and later returned to Ireland to share the hope of the Gospel. Over time, his story became connected with March 17, and many families now use that date to remember him. One of the most well-known illustrations linked with Saint Patrick is the shamrock, which is often used to help children picture the Trinity—three leaves on one plant. Saint Patrick used the shamrock as a helpful visual to help teach about God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
If you’re looking for a way to keep St. Patrick’s Day focused on the real person (instead of just the holiday), these worksheets are a simple place to start.

Books About Saint Patrick
No homeschool history study is complete without living books! Here are a few of our favorites about Saint Patrick:

Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland by Tomie dePaola (a favorite author!)
This is our favorite that we read each year, which is especially good for elementary students.

Shamrocks, Harps, and Shillelaghs by Edna Barth
A fun way to add in Ireland connections and vocabulary.

St. Patrick’s Day by Gail Gibbons (another favorite author that never disappoints!)
Clear, kid-friendly nonfiction that works well when you want “just the facts.” Her whole series is excellent!
Easy add-on idea: After you read, have your child choose one page from the writing section in this packet and write 1–2 sentences about what they remember most about Saint Patrick.
