How to Use these Thanksgiving Phonics Puzzle Cards:
One side of the puzzle card contains the Thanksgiving picture and vocabulary word. Students should match the picture card correctly to its vowel or vowel team matching card. Each word has a vowel or vowel team underlined to indicate which match should be found.
After matching the cards and reading the example words at the bottom of each, your child can practice these vowels and vowel teams one more time on the worksheets provided.
Vowel sounds include: short vowel sounds, long vowel sounds (including silent e and vowel teams), R-controlled (Bossy R), and the Schwa sound.
There are two worksheets included: one with the first 13 Thanksgiving vocabulary words and the second contains the second set of 13 Thanksgiving vocabulary words. Children can use a regular pencil to write the Thanksgiving words once, and then use a red pencil to write back over the vowel or vowel team and then underline it once more to isolate it.
