How to Use Word Searches in Your Homeschool
I have used word searches in a variety of ways throughout my 16+ years of homeschooling. Word searches aren’t busy work – they are a a valuable way to reinforce vocabulary words, practice spelling, work on fine motor skills, and visual discrimination.
Here are a few more ideas that will be helpful as you plan your own homeschool:
- Add one to a morning basket or independent work folder.
- Use a monthly word search at the beginning of a new month.
- Pair phonics word searches with spelling or reading review.
- Use holiday word searches as a calm activity during busy weeks. Let older students complete them independently while you work with younger children.
- Have children circle unfamiliar words, then choose a few to define or use in a sentence.
