Usually in the 4th grade, my children spend a whole year learning and studying about our 50 United States here in America. We have used Memoria Press’ States & Capitals set for three different children so far, it is excellent.
Children learn just a couple of states and capitals per week, along with a few fun facts along the way. The geography set is written in such a way that you could use it any year of upper elementary school.
Whether you use States & Capitals set or some other method entirely to learn U.S. Geography, make sure you add this set of United States Word Search Puzzles to your learning list!

United States Word Search Puzzles
This packet of U.S. Word Search Puzzles are a fun way to study the spelling, geography, and abbreviations of the 50 states.
There are 6 word search puzzles included – 1 puzzle of each of the 4 geographical U.S. regions and 2 puzzles that practice the states in alphabetical order.
** Don’t miss the Northeast Word Search Freebie at the end of this post! **
On each page, you will find the word search for the designated region, along with a map at the bottom of the page. Students should fill in the correct abbreviation for the given state in the region. In order to do this, your child needs to know where the state is along with its abbreviation.
So lots of practice is built into this one puzzle page!
Use these pages to reinforce the current region your student is studying, or use these as review.
This packet also includes the answer key to all of the puzzles.
If you would like a complete program to learn all 50 States and Capitals, we have used Memoria Press’ set for years. It’s engaging, predictable, and doable in bite-size chunks.
The States and Capitals Review takes very little time to complete each week and the variety of review has been very helpful for my children.
