Description
Give your child hands-on Thanksgiving vowel sounds practice with picture puzzles and follow-up worksheets. Children match Thanksgiving words to the vowel sounds or spelling patterns shown in the underlined letters, then read additional example words together.
What’s Included in the Thanksgiving Phonics Packet?
- 26 Thanksgiving picture cards with 26 matching phonics cards, forming 26 two-piece puzzles
- 2 vowel practice worksheets, each covering 13 Thanksgiving vocabulary words
- 2 worksheet answer keys
- A guide for using the activities
The vocabulary runs from A to Z, with one Thanksgiving word or phrase beginning with each letter. Children practice the underlined vowel or spelling pattern within each word.

Which Vowel Sounds and Patterns Does It Review?
The packet includes practice with:
- Short vowel sounds
- Long vowel sounds, including silent-e patterns
- Vowel teams and other vowel spelling patterns
- R-controlled vowels, also called Bossy R
- The schwa sound
For example, children match turkey to an r-controlled vowel card and wishbone to a card showing long O spelled O–consonant–E. Each phonics card includes additional example words to read.
Choose the patterns your child has already learned rather than introducing the entire set at once.
How to Use these Thanksgiving Phonics Puzzle Cards:
One side of the puzzle card contains the Thanksgiving picture and vocabulary word. Students should match the picture card correctly to its vowel or vowel team matching card. Each word has a vowel or vowel team underlined to indicate which match should be found.
After matching the cards and reading the example words at the bottom of each, your child can practice these vowels and vowel teams one more time on the worksheets provided.
There are two worksheets included: one with the first 13 Thanksgiving vocabulary words and the second contains the second set of 13 Thanksgiving vocabulary words. Children can use a regular pencil to write the Thanksgiving words once, and then use a red pencil to write back over the vowel or vowel team and then underline it once more to isolate it.
