This Fall Word Wall post was originally published in September 2014. I’ve updated it in a major way! Here’s the original post:
I’ve always loved the idea of a word wall, but we just don’t have space for it in our small school room. Word Walls can increase vocabulary, be a fun way to reinforce spelling, and spark great writing activities.
Due to our lack of wall space, I had written off using word walls in our homeschool.
Last week, I created a Spelling Dictionary for my daughter using ordinary file folders. Then it dawned on me:
I can create a File Folder Word Wall.
Woo hoo! And our wall space problem is now solved!

Fall Word Wall Using File Folders
Instead of using a pocket chart, or placing words on a wall or bulletin board, I made my 2nd grader a word wall that is glued inside of a regular file folder.
This particular word wall focuses on vocabulary you would use during the fall season.
I love to increase my children’s vocabularies through reading good literature and using fun activities. This word wall is just the supplement to use with our fun Fall reading!
While I created this packet for my 2nd grader, you could easily use it in 1st-3rd grades, and even in 4th grade for kiddos that need extra supplementation.
What’s Included in the Fall Word Wall Packet?
In addition to a colorful list of fall vocabulary words, I added 12 printables that can easily be tucked into the file folder.
When it’s time to work on vocabulary or we just have a few extra minutes, my daughter can easily take out her Fall Folder.
She loves it!
In this Fall Word Wall packet, you’ll find:
► 2 colorful lists of Fall Words, which include a picture for each word; includes 32 words total
► Colorful cover page and black & white cover page option
► Fall File Folder Tab – glue on for easy recognition
► ABC Order – choose 6 words from the list and alphabetize
► Adjectives – choose adjectives to describe the words from the word wall
► Nouns – choose a word from the word wall to complete each phrase
► Writing Sentences – use the given fall word to write your own sentence; includes 2 pages
► Picture Matching – match each picture with the correct word from the list; includes 2 pages

Complete instructions for assembly are included in the download, as well as a few tips.
NEW for September 2020!
Some of you don’t have the lack of wall space that I do and would benefit from the actual wall cards.
Since this is such a frequent request, I am updating all of the Word Wall with File Folder Activities to include the actual large wall cards.
► 32 Fall Word Wall Cards – One set has a fun background, and the other set is more print-friendly. Choose what is best for your situation.
If you’re a homeschooler, the File Folder activities are a fun independent activity! Plus, all of the worksheets can be stored inside the file folder for easy clean up after the school day is finished!
If you’re a teacher, this file folder word wall would be a neat addition to your literacy center! You could also use for early finishers, for small group work, or you could even send them home as a fun change of pace for homework.
Please note that this packet is for personal use for one family only OR for classroom use with one teacher only.
