Johnny Appleseed – we study him every year during our annual Apple Unit Study!
We love all things apples here at the Hill House, and studying them is so fun for my kiddos and me. We have such wonderful memories of apple tasting, apple cooking, apple chalk pastels, apple books, and any other apple idea you can imagine.
When we study apples, we also read several books about Johnny Appleseed and do a few Johnny Appleseed activities as well.
This year, I needed something fresh and new for my current 1st grader, so I created a set of Johnny Appleseed Handwriting Practice Worksheets.
Johnny Appleseed Handwriting Practice Worksheets
This set of handwriting worksheets includes 10 pages, each with one sentence about Johnny Appleseed.
Most are telling sentences, however, I also included 1 exclaiming sentence and 2 question sentences.
If your child does not want to copy the sentence, I wrote the sentence in dotted lines if your child would rather trace.
Using Handwriting Practice Worksheets
In our home, we are going to use one of these handwriting pages each day. My 6 year old will read the sentence to the best of her ability, and we will talk about the parts of the sentence.
Even though she is not a fluent reader yet, she can easily recognize nouns and verbs when we do her lessons aloud.
These practice worksheets also give us a chance to talk about capital letters, end marks, and spacing between words. These are all areas she needs extra practice!
Lastly, I included a sentence with John Chapman’s birth date, which provides yet another chance to talk about writing the date.
I have found that my young ones need a lot of practice with these concepts, and handwriting practice provides a wonderful opportunity to incorporate many of these.
Plus, having themed sentences just make it all the more appealing!
NOTE: These handwriting worksheets are free for you to use in your own homeschool or classroom! Enjoy!
