Ways to Use These Spring Words
Need more detailed ideas for using this list of words? Choose from 1 or more of the following:
Daily handwriting or copywork – choose several “letters” from the list – Letters A through G, for example – and have your child copy those in print or cursive.
Weekly spelling lists – If you have a particular spelling program, continue to use that, only choose 2-5 words from this list as “add-ons.” Or create a custom spring spelling list for your child.
Creative writing prompts – Choose several words from the list as writing prompts, or you could have your child choose the words that interests him the most.
Word wall or pocket chart – Write several of these words on the white board, or print and use around the room to create a word wall and use for a few weeks. Or place word cards in your pocket chart.
Nature journaling – Do you spy any of these spring words outside on a nature walk? See how many you can locate on a walk, and then journal or sketch in your notebook.
Story starters or sentence building – This is a fun one that my kids and I do often! Choose the first word on the list. Go around the room as each person makes a sentence using the next word on the list. You can choose to make these serious or silly sentences!
Understand Definitions – Are there words on the list with which your children are not familiar? Use this fun Definition Worksheet and find some new-to-you vocabulary words! See a picture of this page in the next photo in this post.
Grammar Practice – Categorize the list into spring nouns, spring verbs, spring adjectives, and so on. Go a step further and categorize the spring nouns into proper and common or abstract and concrete nouns.
