How to Use These Color By Number Worksheets with Preschoolers
Before handing over the crayons, take a minute to look at the color code together. This small step helps your child slow down, notice the numbers, and connect each number with the correct color. I always go over worksheet directions with my children to make sure they understand expectations.
The activity would look like this at my house:
These worksheets also provide a great opportunity to focus on color recognition and color words. You’ll find the primary colors used, along with the color gray.
With this type of worksheet, I help my young one identify the correct colors first and we pull those out of the crayon box. I see if my child can recognize the first letter in the word like this:
Can you find the word that starts with /r/? Red. r-e-d. Then we pull out the red crayon, underline or circle the number assigned to that color, and then move on to the next color.
This is just an easy way to incorporate phonics into every lesson.
