We are right in the middle of summer, Friends, and I have another set of monthly color by sight word worksheets for your young ones. This set of July Color by Sight Word Worksheets will be perfect for those long summer days where you would like to add in some learning, but nothing too heavy.
Last year, I published a packet of Color By Sight Word worksheets for the months of January through April. I am so excited to pick this series back up this year and will finish it through the month of December.
Since sight words need much practice, this whole year will focus on those common words we see every day. I will be utilizing various grades from the Dolch Sight Word List. This particular packet focuses on First and Second Grade words from the Dolch Sight Word List.

July Color By Sight Word Worksheets
This packet of July color by sight word worksheets will focus on words found on the First and Second Grade Dolch sight word lists.
If you’re not familiar, there are several lists of common, everyday words. The two most popular lists are the Dolch Sight Word List and Fry’s Word List.
I will use various levels of the Dolch Word List (Pre-Primer through 3rd Grade) throughout the year as we practice these sight words!

Teaching Ideas for this Color by Code Packet
As with any worksheet, I advise going over the directions carefully with your child to make sure he understands the task. Because sight words are quite challenging for many children, take the time to go over each word on the page.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- If the sight word matches a particular spelling pattern, point out other words that also match that pattern.
For example: how has the vowel team OW. Write the word how on a piece of paper, and then write the words cow, wow, and now. Now brainstorm a few more words with your child. - Point out any consonant blends in the sight words and review what a consonant blend is.
- Review color words, as they are used on every page! Some of the color words are from the Dolch list, so those are certainly worth mentioning.
- Review beginning blends, especially those found in color words.
