Beach Coloring Pages for a Summer Mini Book
This set of summer coloring pages features words and pictures that will be familiar to those beach activities we all know and love!
After your child colors the picture, he can choose to trace the word on each page. For most words, there is enough writing line to try writing the word again without the tracing helps.

Ways to Use These Beach Coloring Pages
These beach coloring pages are flexible enough to use in several different ways depending on the ages of your children and the amount of time you have.
Use them as a simple summer quiet-time activity when you need something calm and screen-free. Print the mini book, staple it together, and let your child color a few pages at a time.
You can also use the packet as part of a beach theme or ocean unit. Read a beach-themed picture book (see below!), talk about the items your child might see at the beach, and then choose a few pages from the mini book to color and trace.
For handwriting practice, have your child trace each beach word carefully. If your child is ready, ask him to write the word again on the blank part of the handwriting line.
For early reading practice, point to the beginning letter of each word and say the sound aloud. With words such as beach, ball, bag, and bucket, you can also listen for beginning sounds and talk about words that start the same way.
This also makes a nice printable activity to pack for a road trip, beach vacation, summer afternoon, or a lighter school day.

Add Light Phonics and Handwriting Practice
Even though this packet is primarily a set of beach coloring pages, you can easily add a bit of phonics and handwriting practice.
For very early readers, have your child point to the first letter in each word and say the beginning sound. You can also ask questions such as, “What sound do you hear at the beginning of ball?” or “Can you find another word that starts like beach?”
For beginning readers, look for simple phonics patterns together. For example, the word beach includes the vowel team ea, and the phrase beach bag gives your child a chance to hear and compare beginning sounds.
Keep this light and simple. The goal is not to turn the coloring pages into a full phonics lesson, but to add a little extra skill practice while your child is already interested in the page.
These little phonics lessons add up over time, so don’t miss that opportunity!
